There could be a battle coming in America with the Malaysian Genting Group wanting to open up a mega casino in Florida which some think would take business away from Las Vegas; with online casinos still being illegal in the USA Las Vegas casino operators are in the general casino news for resisting this development. Genting has been in the casino news many times and is probably best known for the Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore and it also operates Resorts world New York but has no casinos in Las Vegas and nor does it have a license to do so. Land has already been purchased for the proposed new casino in Miami but rumours in the general casino news are that legalising casino gambling in Florida is far from a done deal and several parties including Disney who operate theme parks and convention centres and the Seminole Indians who own the Hard Rock Casino seem to oppose any change. The possibility of a change has according to the casino news attracted interest from current Las Vegas operators such as MGM, Las Vegas Sands and Caesars although they are also wary about taking business from themselves in Las Vegas. Opinion is divided in the casino news about whether Las Vegas would really lose out to Florida with Vince Alberta who is vice president of public affairs for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority suggesting to the casino news that Las Vegas is much more than just a casino resort. Certainly from an Irish perspective there are probably many more people who go to Florida with the family and might play at a casino than would go to Las Vegas specifically to gamble in a casino; certainly Florida seems to offer more for the family. The story is far from finished and we shall keep reporting any developments in our general casino news section..
