New activity about US online gambling is in the casino news

It seems that the battle for online casino gambling in the USA is hotting up even though it remains illegal if we are to believe reports in the general casino news the most recent of which concerns Sportech which is the company behind the football pools. The general casino news suggests that Sportech has been focused on betting at race tracks with the acquisition of Scientific Games Racing but is now in discussions with several casino software suppliers in the anticipation of online casinos becoming legal in the not too distant future. They are of course not the first to dip their toe in the water as casinos.ie has previously reported activity from 888 in the general casino news  and the state of New Jersey has been identified as a possible front runner in legalization. The Chief Executive of Sportech, Mr Ian Penrose, has openly stated that they are in talks with potential suppliers but it is interesting to note that in the UK Sportech uses Playtech casino software for its online gaming business and if reports in the casino news are correct, they are making a loss on the operation. Playtech itself has been in the casino news recently as being the company with whom Ladbrokes is working to improve their digital business. Playtech was previously a shareholder in Sportech but it seems that they are not an automatic choice for the USA. Whether or not online casinos become lawful again in the USA remains very much a difficult point; there are certainly some individual states that see a good source of revenues through taxes and football pools is a declining business as people can bet on the results through their online casino provider plus there is the added uncertainty of a 15% tax on online gambling in the UK which has been announced for December 1st 2014 so possibly a gamble on the US market is a good option.
